To prepare the proposed project, the following work was done up to the present time:

• October 16th 2002: First contact with Schindler and discussion of the first steps. One of the first tasks will be the visualization of a new elevator concept that allows an easy integration of the elevator into a new building. The goal of the visualization will be to introduce the new principle within the company itself and to demonstrate the modularity.

• October 26th 2002: Teleconference to discuss the storyboard for the visualization. Details are discussed and the basis for the visualization will be the  Powerpoint presentation "Click, plug and ride" provided by Schindler.

• October 29th 2002: A data exchange format has to be defined for the CAD-system used by Schindler and the VR-software used at the ETH. VRML- and IGES-formats were tested. It was found that the VRML-format can be used as an exchange format. Although the mating conditions of the parts are lost, it provides a good conversion of geometry and texture.

• October 31st 2002: A first layout of the interactive user interface is created:

• November 6th 2002: The first animated sequences of VRML-objects were made. They will be combined afterwards to a continuous animation.

• November 8th 2002: The presentation of all parts as well as of the animation was done in Ebikon/Switzerland
