For mechatronic products, the focus in on the various product features and on the multidisciplinary of expertise. Thus, the development process has to allow for integrating various disciplines. The lecture thus explains tools and methods for a successful development of complex mechatronic systems in machine and plant engineering. It covers the whole process chain (lifecycle), starting from marketing via development and production, up to operation and disposal. The students should learn to apply methods that represent best practices for a market-driven development of complex integrated products. They should learn the ‘vocabulary’ in order to understand the contribution of the different disciplines and to integrate them into the mechatronic product. Further, they should also learn the manifold functionalities and properties that current machines and manufacturing plants have to deal with.
The students should be able to structure and manage development projects having the “digital product” in mind. They will know about the benefits and usage of different methods and tools. The students should also be able to use the methods and tools holistically in new designs of mechatronic products.
The course enfolds the complete development process for mechatronic products,
also covering the downstream processes like sales and assembling of the product.
The new VDI 2206 guideline provides a basis for the development of mechatronic
products. In the concept phase it is shown how concurrent engineering for
mechatronic products is realized. Further, the theoretical and methodical
base-concepts of product structures will be presented as well as the proceeding
towards structured products. Based on these facts, knowledge of
product-configuration will be focused.
The students are given an overview of
state of the art methods and tools for developing mechatronic systems and the
demands on the involved domains. By means of examples the students are given a
deeper knowledge in chosen methods and tools. Adjacent the usage of simulation
of mechatronic systems during the development process using virtual prototypes
is shown. State of the art tools for simulation is presented and used by the
student in predetermined examples.
The virtual machine concept for a virtual
initial operation is described, and the utilization of virtual models for the
downstream processes like assembly, sales, service and marketing is shown. Using
different examples the students should understand the different perspectives of
the product and create miscellaneous product instructions.
The course is accomplished mixing lectures and exercises. English Handouts will be provided. A total fee of 30.- CHF is charged initially for all handouts. The course will be taught in German or in English.
